How to “brighten” your white sneakers so you can wear them this spring?
White sneakers look their best when they’re new, and that’s a fact. But after a few weeks, they can easily lose their white shine, and after a few months, they look worn and old.
Depending on the material, whether they are leather or canvas, you need to determine the correct way to make them “shine” like new again, without damaging them.
After I realized I had a pile of shoes that I never wear because they look so run down and filthy, I went on a hunt for the easiest, laziest way to clean them.
-The following tips and tricks will help you prepare your white sneakers for spring:
- Grabbed a few cotton balls, and grabbed the one thing I always have on hand in my bathroom cabinet– NAIL POLISH REMOVER!
Simply soak a few cotton balls with a generous amount of nail polish remover, and scrub the white rubber soles of any shoes until they look nice and white. Trust me, they’ll look brand new!
DO NOT use the nail polish on the canvas or fabric part of shoes because that might cause discoloring.
- Mix ¼ cup dishwashing detergent with 2 cups warm water. Scrub the canvas with a clean sponge, and scrub the rubber with an old toothbrush. Wipe with a damp cloth, then a dry cloth, and let dry. To make drying easier, you can fill them with paper that will absorb the moisture. Dry the insoles and laces separately.
- You can also make a mixture of 1/5 bleach and 4/5 lukewarm water and scrub the entire sneakers with a clean toothbrush to whiten them. Then rinse with water and dry in a place where there is no moisture.
- To clean the rubber on the soles of white sneakers, you can also use white toothpaste, which you rub in with a brush. Then just wipe with a damp cloth.
- For white sneakers, you can use a mixture of 1 teaspoon of baking soda and a little vinegar. Apply the resulting paste to the sneakers with a soft brush and rub briefly. Let it sit for a few minutes, then wash the sneakers in a clothes washer.
- Drying the sneakers will be easier and faster if you hang them by the tongue.
- To add shine to your skin, mix half a cup of olive oil with a little vinegar in a spray bottle. Apply a layer of the mixture, wait about 10 minutes, then wipe again.
- If there are scratches on your sneakers, you can cover them with white nail polish.
And the final result will be fantastic!
